Training

The entire staff of Tunxis Service Center trains to proficient in our respective fields. We care deeply about recommending and providing services that are appropriate for your vehicle. Our training budget enables us to stay abreast of technological advances in the industry.

Online Training:

  • We subscribe to several sites where we can search for various vehicle pattern failures.
  • We also submit problems we discover with vehicles to the data bases.
  • By subscribing to these sites we can research some vehicle problems before the technician even opens the hood, thereby saving us time and our client money.

Regional Training:

  • The technicians, service advisor and management of Tunxis Service Center attend pertinent seminars throughout the Northeast, we go to several in Boston and New York yearly.

National Training:

  • Our capable and willing staff has traveled to:
    Charlotte, NC
    Chicago, IL
    St. Louis, Mo
    Waterford, MI
    Fredericksburg, VA
    Grand Rapids, MI
for high quality advanced training that was not available within the region.

Recent Training

  • December 2011 – Supplement Restraint Systems Training

Air bags and supplemental restraints are wonderful safety devices but dangerous for technicians who are unfamiliar with them; accidental deployment can cripple an unsuspecting worker. So, we train constantly for their safety as well as competence.

This latest class focused on newer systems, "Smart Deploy." Many systems have two stage deployment. A minor accident may only cause the seatbelt tensioner to react but not the front airbag. Sylva and Mark learned updated procedures and safety rules; they also got to blow off some airbags.

One word of caution they wanted to pass on. Many cars have side impact protection airbags on the outboard side of the seat; seat covers will restrict those bags, the seat cover may inhibit deployment.

  • July 2011 – Advanced Oscilloscope Training – "if it has a heartbeat we can measure it"

Mark and Sylva took part in intensive VW/Audi component testing that is useful also for all makes of cars. They measured low voltages, frequencies and monitored waveforms of ABS sensors, throttle bodies and mass air flow sensors to name a few.

Both felt the theory and practical application helps to make them even better diagnosticians.

  • April 2011 – Volvo, Body Systems 2
Sylva and Mark went to this 1-day long class. They learned more about Volvo:
    • Anti-lock braking and traction control
    • Climate control systems
    • Network configurations
    • New generation body electronics
    • Overview of the new 6-cylinder engine design

They came home with a lot of resource material and a healthy respect for the changes Volvo is making.

  • January 2011 – Volkswagen/Audi Advanced TDI

Mark and Rudy went to this class in Boston. It was on the new clean diesels systems.

  • July 2010 – Volkswagen/Audi Coding

Mark and Sylva spent this rainy day in an intense and fast paced class on coding modules and interpreting data. The instructor is both brilliant and unrelenting, the seminar was 13 hours. We all digested the information from their notes for days.

  • September 2009 – BMW Systems & Coding

Mark & Sylva attended a 2 day seminar in New Hampshire. There was a great deal of instruction on the systems but the professionals there had the opportunity to share a lot of troubleshooting experiences. These sessions are often more valuable then the formal training. Our 2 guys have over 40 years of professional experience. The 18 pros at the host repair facility talked BMW for a few hours.
